Asahi Kasei Plastics North America, Inc.: Introduces New Products at NPE 2009

Asahi Kasei Plastics North America, Inc. (APNA)

Asahi Kasei Plastics North America, inc. located in Fowlerville, Michigan, USA, a leading supplier of high-performance compounds will be highlighting new technologies in a variety of markets; including appliances, automotive, construction, electrical/electronic, recreation, industrial and liquid handling.

Thermylene™ P8 Engineered Polypropylene Compound

Asahi Kasei is proud to introduce Thermylene™ P8 compounded polypropylene as a vast improvement in short glass reinforced polypropylene…providing an alternative to long glass technology.

Key Advantages vs. Long Glass Reinforced PP

  • Specific Gravity
  • Ease of molding
  • Part Appearance
  • Part Dimension
  • Knit Line Strength
  • Screw torque Retention

Xyron™ Modified Polyphenylene Ether (mPPE)

A true base producer of mPPE compounds to the North American plastics industry. Asahi Kasei has developed an updated process of polymerization and compatibalizing of modifiers to bring an improvement to the market of high temperature polymers providing improved heat and processing performance.

  • Outstanding Electrical Properties
  • Mechanical properties unaffected by temperature and moisture
  • Excellent resistance to hydrolysis
  • Halogen-free flame retardancy

There are available alloyed/modified compounds with nylon, polystyrene, polypropylene, & PPS for a variety of applications in automotive, fluid handling, electrical/electronics, etc.

Leona™ 90G Partially Aromatic Nylons for Metal Replacement & Long Glass Engineered Resin Applications

Asahi Kasei Plastics has formulated a partially aromatic nylon by inserting a 61 molecule into the PA66 molecular chain. This new polymer gives the positive aspects of an easily processable nylon polymer, but without the significant changes in dimensional stability or loss of property values in a conditioned state that you find with other hydroscopic engineered resins. Think of Leona™ 90G Series resins as a metal die cast replacement thermoplastic or an cost savings alternative to long glass engineered resins.

    • High Stiffness : Modulus > 18GPa
    • Good Appearance : No GF on Surface, Gloss value > 80
    • Outstanding Weatherability : E < 3 (Xe-test, 2000hrs)
    • Excellent Processability : High-flow
